So you want to get technical huh? Well this is definitely not the place. Don’t get me wrong, it’s important to understand the technical stuff, but I’m not schooled in HTML code. I just wanted to explain one simple thing that will help you in your online marketing efforts.
What you should learn from this post is not only where to find the HTML code, but what to do with it.
You see, the thing is I’m just learning as I go. Breaking down large tasks into small pieces.
Everything is less overwhelming this way. I don’t build houses, but you don’t put the house up all at once right? There are several steps along the way. This post is just another small step.
This is the next step in a “how to do” series relating to setting up landing pages on your self-hosted domin of choice. Just to reiterate why I’m doing this, it’s because I wanted to “preserve MY brand”, while being a loyal affiliate to products or systems that I promote.
Ever see someone with an affiliate link that looks like this? www.TheirCompany.com/Affiliate ID 12345/ I mean that is screaming I WANT TO SELL YOU SOMETHING!!!!
Remember people LOVE TO BUY, but they DO NOT LIKE TO BE SOLD. Yes, I understand that this post now sounds like an oxymoron, but we’re trying to become financially free and not a non-profit organization. Anyways, moving on….
A preservation of your brand will look more like this, www.YouInc.com/secrets-to-your-success. When your target market focuses on that link it entices them to not only see what “secrets” you have, when they see your brand in the addrss bar, they will become more familar with you. Plus, if you’ve already connected with them through social media or a newsletter, they’ll be ok with clicking the link.
So let’s leverage the work of someone else. How about Mike Dillard one of the best in the industry? I’m going to find an HTML code for the landing page of Mike Dillard’s Black Belt Recruiting. (EDITORS NOTE: Magnetic Sponsoring landing pages do not work OUTSIDE of the Magnetic Sponsoring system. ie. your blog….sorry; THIS POST IS ABOUT PRINCIPLE ANYWAYS)
If it’s so easy, why doesn’t everyone do it? Because it’s hard to learn new things when you’re lazy.
How to Find HTML Source Code
Before we be begin it is worth noting that I am using Internet Explorer, however the other web browsers also contain this simple feature.
In this example I’m going to use Mike Dillard’s Black Belt Recruiting Lead Capture Page. Don’t worry this works with ANY capture page.
- Open the capture page whose HTML code you want to find.
- Verify that this capture page has your affilate id embedded. How do you know? Look for your “username” or “id=1234″ or “affid=1234″ in the address bar.
- In the Menu Bar, click View>Source
That’s it. So easy. Now what the heck to do with it…….
Please watch this video to find out what I’m going to do.

Great post, Mark!
I totally agree with you on this subject — it’s all about personal branding being able to control how things are presented.
I do something similar, I just use a Wordpress plugin called “Include It” to put an iframe window of my affiliate link on my blog page.
Hey Derek,
I might have to incorporate that plugin as well. Thanks for the tips.
Mark
