I wanted to begin this post by telling you a little bit about the history of Avon. If you’re anything like me, then you automatically associate Avon with the notorious “Avon Lady”. Folks, those days are over.

At the age of 28 David H. McConnell created a company called the California Perfume Company in 1886. It was based in New York and the operating room was only 20ft by 25ft. By 1906 there were 10,000 representatives selling products all over the country. In 1939, the company was called Avon Products, Inc. By 1954 Avon first opened its doors overseas.

That is tremendous growth by a direct sales company that began in the late 1800′s. Even by today’s standards, that is something that is very difficult to achieve. Yet the principles of successful business still remain the same.

Fast forward to the 21st century. Avon has now over $10 billion in revenues and 5 million representatives worldwide. Not bad for a direct sales company right? The bad news is that if you are an Avon representative, you are competing with 5 million other people. That’s 5 million people that all want their piece of the pie. Good news is that there’s plenty to go around as we’re set for the largest transfer of wealth to occur in the coming decade.

There’s 5 million Avon representative websites worldwide all vying for a way into the wallets of women everywhere. I’ve got a million dollar question for you.

How are you going to differentiate yourself from all of those other representatives?

If you’re serious about being successful in Avon, you will need to learn how to drive traffic to your Avon representative website.

Here are 3 Tips to Help You Drive Endless Traffic to Your Avon Representative Websites

Tip #1: Use social media to build trust with your target market. People will buy from people they trust or know. Facebook is a great place to meet and connect with people. And as of this article, it is the second most visited website behind Google.

With Facebook, your potential clients can see how beautiful you are, look at your pictures, see the clothes you wear, the people you hang out with and get familiar with you. You can even put a link on your profile so people can find your site.

By all means do not lead with your opportunity because no one wants to be friends with someone who just wants something from them. Make genuine connections with them.

Tip #2: Create a YouTube video describing a new product and what it’s done for you. Captivate your target market by giving a testimonial. People want to try before buying, but if they trust you and can see true real life results, that will be enough for them.

People spend a lot of time on YouTube and when someone see something they connect with they come back time and time again. Think about that, how would you like someone to view you as the expert in beauty and health?

Oh yeah and you can put your link in the description so they can buy that product right away! That’s instant gratification and we all know how much women love to shop right?

Tip #3: Forum marketing can be a great place to gain some credibility. Credibility is going to be a key factor in whether someone will trust you. Especially online. Sometimes being credible can mean the difference between a sale and one of the other 5 million people taking your sales.

Find your favorite health and beauty forum and try to offer a solution to someone else’s problem. When you comment on something, you can also leave a link under your signature. The caveat to doing this is that you will need to make sure you add value to the conversation. Don’t just pitch your site; remember that there are 5 million out there exactly like yours.

Leveraging the internet is a must today. These tips are very basic in nature, but the principles behind them are critical. You must gain trust from your target market. This is done through familiarity. The more places you are the better. The other critical principle is credibility. Avon is a strong brand and is credible on its own, but every representative must show that they are the one to buy from not the other lady.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the complement. I hope that people realize that competition online is worldwide. But the potential is limitless. Come back often.

It’s hard to believe that Avon has been around that long. Imagine being in a network marketing company and not being the black sheep of business back in the late 1800′s.

You bring up very good points on grabbing your market share. There are many who believe there is no such thing as competition, however, there is one fact you can’t dispute, and that is, the more distributors in a company, the harder you have to work to claim your share.

Bottom line is you are right. You have to set yourself apart from the competition and you start with building trust.

Great work!

Thanks for the sharing. I think that as long as people understand leverage, people will be able to compete here on the internet. Trust and loyalty are definately something that people always have to earn. The best way to do that here on the internet is to be seen and to provide value always.

Happy New Years!! I hope 2010 is better than last year.

As I was reading then skimming through the myriad of comments above, another reason came to mind. On a blog with many comments I often do not comment even though I may have something to say. I may be repeating something already said and often do not have the time to read all comments that have already been made.

A person has to ponder what the eventual consequence of all of this shall be – that said, impressive views yet again on this subject – and your web site is still a first class supplier of info.

Shelby,

Thanks for the comment that’s great!
